Got an hour? The radio is yours.
Talk about whatever you like: football, recipes, the neighbourhood, your friends, nothing at all. On your own or with others. You don't need to know how, we'll show you.
In the archive: VoicesThe Barona is usually described by others. NO SIGNAL is the radio of Barrio's: voices, music and sounds of the neighbourhood, published only with the consent of the people speaking.
NO SIGNAL is the radio of Barrio's. When nobody is on air, the building plays. When you're here, you play. There are four ways in.
Talk about whatever you like: football, recipes, the neighbourhood, your friends, nothing at all. On your own or with others. You don't need to know how, we'll show you.
In the archive: VoicesBring your music on air, live or recorded. Only your own tracks, or ones you have permission for, under your name or a stage name.
In the archive: MusicThe stairwell, the square, the underpass, the gate that bangs. A phone and a minute are enough. Sounds without voices go into the free soundbank.
In the archive: SoundsThe group that makes the podcast: pick a guest, prepare the questions, record. Roles rotate and you don't have to be there every time.
How the club works ↓How to take part
For staff: bring your group to the station. The last ten minutes of an activity are enough.
Nobody decides before they know how it turned out. If nobody chooses, the recording is deleted.
Every recording carries a credit: name, nickname or anonymous, as the speaker prefers. In group recordings, the lowest level applies.
Anyone who recorded can lower the level or withdraw a recording at any time, without explaining. We take it down from here within 7 days. What has already been broadcast, or already downloaded from the bank, can't be called back.
NO SIGNAL is the radio of Barrio's. Young people record the voices, music and sounds of the Barona, and they decide what goes on air.
The name comes from the LED screen on the front of Barrio's, which for years has shown only two words: no signal.
The radio is a station on wheels, built from what has been left in the basement over the years, and a set of receivers that carry the broadcast into other spaces. It belongs to Barrio's: other groups can use it too.

Roles rotate. You don't have to come every time.
The club is the group that makes the NO SIGNAL podcast: every two or three weeks an episode with a guest, about design and the city as seen from the Barona. We meet at the station, choose together who to interview and what to ask, and record. Everyone who comes learns to do everything, and nobody has to be there every time.
In spring the club will take its microphones out of the neighbourhood: in April 2027 some members will cover Milan Design Week, asking Design Week the same questions they ask here.

The season
Who is involved
NO SIGNAL began at Barrio's, the Barona's youth centre, opened in 1997 in a building owned by the City of Milan. Barrio's is the responsibility of two associations: Comunità Nuova, which runs it and its everyday educational projects, and Amici di Edoardo, which supports and funds it. The radio is made by the young people of the crew, who take turns choosing guests, preparing questions and recording.
The radio started within CIVICITY, a residency programme by Nieuwe Instituut, cheFare and Collective Works that invites designers to ask what Design Week brings to Milan and what it costs the city: rents, pollution, inequality, tourism. Ned, designer in residence at Barrio's in 2026, coordinates the radio together with the Barrio's staff.
